Ron Miscavige • Cover Up
The Tragic Human Trafficking Story Ron Hides

In his effort to make money exploiting his own family, Ron Miscavige latches on to and tries to promote absurd claims he “heard about” to spread his own myth that he and others were “mistreated.”

It’s especially hypocritical since Ron sweeps under the rug the fact that his namesake son was arrested, while Ron and his wife Becky were living with Ronnie, after being caught up in a major investigation involving the human trafficking of young women for prostitution.

When Ron knows firsthand that someone is actually being mistreated through a crime and when that person was named as a victim of human trafficking — and it’s happening right in front of him because his namesake son is at the center of it—
Ron covers it up.

When Ron knows firsthand that someone is actually being mistreated through a crime and when that person was named as a victim of human trafficking — and it’s happening right in front of him because his namesake son is at the center of it— Ron covers it up.

That’s what happened when his son Ronnie was arrested in Virginia for solicitation of prostitution within days of Ron moving in with him, part of a larger law enforcement sting. Ron kept it from his family because he knew that it was exactly what his daughters had feared when they pleaded with him not to go live with Ronnie. Sexually abused by their older brother when they were all of 8 and 11 years old, they knew his character. Ron knew that moving in with his namesake would be such an egregious act of betrayal that his daughters would want nothing to do with him again. But Ron did it anyway.

Records show that what Ron covered up on behalf of Ronnie was far worse than imagined. The woman Ronnie had been paying for sex, Rachel, was found by the police to be a drug-addicted victim of a pimp who was holding her against her will and physically abusing her. Her pimp had set up shop in the adjoining room to the one where she met her “johns” like Ronnie.

Police photo of Louis Terrell Whack from a Virginia arrest. According to Hampton, Va., police reports from November 2011, Rachel told officers “that Mr. Whack was keeping [Rachel] in the hotel against [her] will.”

According to police reports, the pimp took the victim’s ID and her mobile phone while preventing her from making calls from her room. “Yesterday, he repeatedly punched me about 10 times, one of the punches hit my face,” she told police.

A prospective client took pity on Rachel’s cries for help. He did the right thing by declining to have sex with her, then reporting the matter, which led to the police investigation. By contrast, instead of doing the right thing, police records say Ronnie paid for sexual services between November and January.

Police records also show that Rachel told police that she had sexually serviced Ronnie 30 times over a two-month period. On one occasion when she and another prostitute serviced Ronnie together for a 30-minute threesome that included “everything,” Ronnie paid each $100.

Interviewed by police, Ronnie claimed that he had researched topless massages at “Avenue X” and Backpage.com. Backpage is the notorious website law enforcement officials consider a cesspool of human trafficking. It also happens to be the same website defended relentlessly by Ron’s shill Tony Ortega when the human trafficking site was the cash cow of the publication Ortega worked for at the time. As New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof once asked, “If prostitution of children is illegal, why is it that we allow an estimated 100,000 underage girls and boys to be sold for sex in America each year — many on a single American website, Backpage.com?”

Police photo of victim, Rachel, from a prostitution arrest in Gloucester County, Va. According to a police report, on March 2, 2012, Rachel told a detective she “provided sexual services to [Ronnie] Miscavige on over 30 occasions between November 2011 and January 2012.”

The police report also stated that when asked point-blank if he had paid for sex during the “massages,” Ronnie “stated that he would like to answer the question truthfully but was afraid that he would get in trouble if he did so.” Police also found that Ronnie confirmed text messages he received and sent, including one in which he agreed to buy condoms before meeting the prostitute, and that he had a password-protected image file on his phone featuring photos of the prostitutes who had serviced him.

The police report also stated that when asked point-blank if he had paid for sex during the “massages,” Ronnie “stated that he would like to answer the question truthfully but was afraid that he would get in trouble if he did so.”

Of course, Ron never mentions Ronnie’s arrest in his whitewashed “memoir.” He makes the absurd statement that “down in Virginia, Becky and I got along great with Ronnie and Bitty, and life was good.”

Ron makes it sound like having his namesake son caught up in a drug and prostitution sting involving human trafficking was just another day at the office. And the fact that Ronnie’s wife, Bitty, left him because she couldn’t take it anymore was just like playing another Dixieland tune on his trumpet. Instead of condemning Ronnie’s behavior, Ron sniffed money and chose to try to sell books vilifying his younger son, David, the moral compass of the family who not only cared for his father but kept his father’s irresponsible behavior in check for most of Ron’s life.

From Ron’s comment, it sounds like having his namesake son caught up in a drug and prostitution sting was just another day at the office. And the fact that Ronnie’s wife, Bitty, left him because she couldn’t take it anymore was just like playing another lick on his trumpet.

Incredibly, Ron further ignores Ronnie’s arrest by going out of his way to laud him, writing “Ronnie, for instance, is the most considerate and thoughtful person you would ever want to meet,” as if exploiting a young woman strung out on heroin is an act of kindness.

Ron is talking about the same person—Ronnie—who police reports show exploited a woman who was a human trafficking victim. It’s the same immoral son he went to live with against the explicit wishes of his daughters, an act of betrayal that he refused to admit is the catalyst for their disowning him. Ronnie also is the same person who turned his home into a flophouse for individuals he and Ron befriended who are obsessed with trying to hurt Ron’s own daughters through frivolous litigation and media smears.

So when Ron finally decided to venture on his own and move away from the immoral older son Ronnie, it was the moral younger son David who “sent me $100,000 so I could buy a house.” On top of that, David added a plan for top-quality medical and dental insurance, with $5,000 annually to cover it.

Any normal father would be happy to receive such help and feel grateful to a son like David, especially since he enabled his father to buy a house free and clear with no mortgage or house payments. For the first time in his life he finally enjoyed that kind of financial security. By contrast, Ronnie, who Ron had expected to shower him with money, gave him nothing other than a temporary roof over his head and the embarrassment that came from living with a son who had just been arrested in a law enforcement sting for exploiting a sad victim of human trafficking.

Any normal father would be happy to receive such help and feel grateful to a son like David, especially since Ron was able to buy a house free and clear with no mortgage or house payments.

But Ron doesn’t see it that way. Instead of showing gratitude, Ron instead exploits the son who leads a moral life and oversees a worldwide religion dedicated to promoting human rights, mobilizing relief efforts when disasters occur and combating the kind of drug abuse suffered by the prostitute his immoral son used 30 times in two months.

Ron ignores the moral wing of his family, praising his older son even when Ronnie was arrested for soliciting prostitution, is known to have frequented massage parlors in Virginia, and lately has been living under the same roof as a woman who some refer to by the mysterious name “Misty Z.”

Ron’s behavior is not how someone acts who wants to mend his relationship with the moral part of his family. It’s exactly the opposite—what someone does when he just wants to use them and make a buck exploiting them.
